Salvaging a Wig

Description

So 'Salvaging a Near Unsalvagable Wig' won in the pole, and since I pretty much had everything I needed right here to put it together, I did. Though there isn't as many 'step by step' pictures like my other tutorials have, I figured most people already know how to comb hair and washing wigs has been covered by other tutorials. Plus wigs usually say on their tags when you buy them how to wash them, SO! Moving on!

The wig featured here is an Amanda wig from cosworx.com that I originally ordered for my Envy cosplay. I was intending on dread-locking it, but the thing kind of exploded upon removing it from the bag and very quickly became unmanageable. So I stuffed it in a bag in my closet only to bring it out for a brief stint at Sakura Con '08 before promptly banishing it to my closet again.

Anyways, this tutorial was spawned from reading through many threads on cosplay.com on different ways to detangle wigs. Everything from fabric softener to 4-in-1 spray lubricant. Decided the fabric softener seemed less dangerous since the wig has to, you know, go on my head. X3

Hope this is helpful for somebody! Please, if you link off sight credit me to the original work (at least don't remove my name from the tutorial). Otherwise feel free to use it in your next wig endeavor!

EDIT: I have been informed by someone who used this tutorial that this method will straighten a curly wig. So if you want your wig to still be curly after putting it through this treatment you will have to go back and re-curl the wig.

EDIT x2: I feel, since I get several questions on the matter, that I must state that I DON'T KNOW IF THIS'LL WORK ON ALL WIGS!!! The best advice I can offer is to just TRY! What's the worst that can happen? You're out a few hours of labor on a wig that you couldn't use for anything anyways.

EDIT x3: This method CAN be used with cold water. Cold isn't as affective as the warm water, but it does work.

However, if you do try this tutorial and find that it did something that I wasn't aware of (like straightening a curly wig) then please let me know so I can add it here to let others know.

Thank you!

Those deviants that have used the tutorial!
